Concept Cars

At SUBARU, I worked primarily on exterior designs for concept cars. My role was to bring SUBARU’s brand vision to life and explore future possibilities through innovative concept car designs. This position allowed me to express my creativity and tackle exciting challenges.

①VIZIV PERFORMANCE CONCEPT
The first project I worked on was the VIZIV PERFORMANCE CONCEPT, unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2017. I was responsible for the rear design and some other parts of the car.
This project was a significant challenge for me as a first-year designer, especially because I had to balance it with my responsibilities on production vehicle designs. However, my efforts were well-recognized within the company, leading to my transfer to the advanced development team. This project taught me the importance of delivering results under tight deadlines and working collaboratively with a team.

②VIZIV TOURER CONCEPT
The second project I contributed to was the VIZIV TOURER CONCEPT, showcased at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. I handled the design of the front section and other parts of the car. This model was an evolution of the VIZIV PERFORMANCE CONCEPT, adapted into a wagon style.
Despite a very tight schedule, the final design was successful and became a finalist (Top 10) in the Car Design Award 2018 for the concept car category in Italy. This recognition not only highlighted SUBARU’s design capabilities but also boosted my confidence as a designer working on an international stage.

③VIZIV ADRENALINE CONCEPT
The final project I worked on was the VIZIV ADRENALINE CONCEPT, presented at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. This model reflected insights from market research conducted in North America and focused on addressing practical needs with innovative designs.
For example, the front grille design included a mechanism to control air intake, solving the “overcooling” issue often faced in cold climates. I also proposed a spotlight function for better visibility in remote areas with little to no street lighting. These ideas were based on real-world challenges faced by SUBARU’s customers in harsh environments.
Additionally, I collaborated with ROBOT Inc. to create an animated promotional video for the Geneva Motor Show. I worked closely with the team to ensure my design ideas were accurately represented in the video, offering a dynamic way to present the concept car to a global audience.

Through these projects, I gained a deeper understanding of SUBARU’s design philosophy and its commitment to creating value for customers. By integrating user needs into futuristic concept car designs, I was able to contribute to SUBARU’s vision in a meaningful way.
The recognition from international platforms like the Car Design Awards and the opportunity to work on groundbreaking projects remain some of the proudest moments in my career. These experiences not only enhanced my design skills but also strengthened my ability to connect innovative ideas with real-world applications.
