I worked at ramsdesign Corp. on the development of automotive HMI(Human Machine Interfaces). My role included brainstorming ideas for the instrument panel design and creating the meter openings. The focus was on innovating the driver interface for future vehicles, specifically the meter designs that will be featured in next-generation cars between 2025 and 2030.
The main theme of the project was designing meters for next-generation vehicles that will be launched between 2025 and 2030. The design aimed to reflect the rapidly changing trends in the automotive industry and the shift in user values. One key area of focus was how car usage is evolving due to the growth of sharing and subscription services. Based on this, I created ideas for a meter system that would be installed in a fictional sharing EV car.
In the context of current trends, EV car-sharing is becoming more common in urban areas of Japan and is increasingly seen as a standard form of public transport. This trend is also reflected in global new car sales data. With this in mind, I designed an advanced interface tailored to meet user needs.

For the design, I removed traditional analog elements like "needles" and "scales," opting for a cleaner, more intuitive, and visually refined design. This made the interface modern and stylish, allowing users to easily understand the car’s functions. I also included a flexible layout for the map display, which allows users to adjust the positioning of meters to suit their preferences, showing details like temperature, time, distance traveled, and estimated time to the destination. This way, users can quickly access important information and intuitively adjust settings.
I also proposed a feature that lets users adjust the interface's colors according to the driving mode or the current scene, similar to changing a smartphone or computer wallpaper. This customization provides a personalized experience, allowing the vehicle’s interior and interface to change based on the user’s situation. This feature helps the same car fit the preferences of different users, making it more appealing to a broader audience.
Furthermore, adjusting the lighting and display settings can enhance safety, as it has been scientifically shown to reduce eye strain and drowsiness while driving. By modifying the interface’s color and brightness, this feature can lower the risk of accidents, providing a safer driving environment. It plays a crucial role in helping drivers maintain focus and stay alert.
Through this project, I clearly demonstrated how future vehicles will evolve and how their interfaces will meet the changing needs of users.
